5 Awesome Home Improvement Tips for Under $500

It seems as though when it comes to selling our homes that there is always a never - ending list of things that just need to get done, from buying new patio furniture to replacing the kitchen cabinets.  Recently, editors with Money Magazine came up with a list of the five home remodeling projects that will greatly improve the overall look of your home, without breaking the bank.

1) Focus on improving curb appeal:
Whether or not you are planning to sell your home, having an inviting first appearance is vital. Start by spending time in the front yard from the curb and moving towards your front door, pulling weeds, planting perennials, and don't forget to trim those hedges! You should also make necessary repairs to fences or front steps and change out that dated mailbox, all for UNDER $500!

2) Paint that Front Door:
Going out and buying a fancy fiberglass front door could cost you upwards of $1,000, BUT you can still upgrade the look for far less by adding new hardware and a fresh coat of paint. Finish off the project with a new light fixture, fresh doormat, and a pot of flowers, and you just might have some change left from that $500 bill.

3) Paint Interior Walls:
Nothing improves the dynamic of a room more than a fresh coat of paint.  It can get complicated or quite expensive if you need to repair drywall, remove mold, or have really tall ceilings, so you may need to hire a pro.  But if you can do it yourself, there is a chance you may even be able to upgrade baseboards or add crown molding, and stay within the $500 budget.

4) Update that Lighting:
Lighting fixtures are to a home as jewelry is to an outfit. They can either spice the home up or look dated and dingy. Switching out a chandelier over the dining room table is simple and budget friendly project. If you're on an extremely tight budget, consider updating the lamps that you already have with new shades.

5) Install new toilets:
While installing new toilets may not necessarily change the look of the bathrooms, but if you still have toilets installed before 1995, replacing them with newer models will save you thousands of gallons of water you won't have to pay for.  You can find newer models for well under $200. So with that extra $300, consider upgrading the look of the bathroom with lighting, mirrors, or additional storage.
