Future Trends Change How Homes Will Be Built

Innovative construction materials that are both eco – friendly & resilient

When it comes to new home construction, it is much simpler to adopt new techniques when you are building from scratch, therefore the new - home market tends to have more than its fair share of inventive products to offer.

Before any of these new products come to the market however, they are first tested by Home Innovation Research Labs which is a company that works with manufacturers to test building products and appliances.  At the request of the manufacturer the lab will do such things as open and shut a door 10,000 times or test how new framing techniques will withstand high winds.  “The goal is to remove barriers to innovation in the housing industry,” said by Michelle Desiderio VP of innovation services at Home Innovation Research Labs.

Environmentally friendly construction is also at the forefront of this change in how new – construction is shaping, for example we are seeing more use of natural materials such as stone and cork.  Another example of this growing trend is the use of mineral wool for insulation.  This material is replacing the traditional spray foam insulation system that contains some fairly nasty chemicals.”  Another added bonus is that this natural alternative is both flame – retardant and difficult for insects to penetrate.

Innovators in new construction are also looking for ways to protect home owners from catastrophic events.  “Many places in the country have experienced once natural disaster after another.”
